Søren Schou
Challenged from the beginning

Søren Schou, a young Dane with an education from the business academy in Aalborg, has been a member of the NOWACO team since he started his apprenticeship on the 1st of September 2006.

– Although my new collegues welcomed me to the office in Aalborg, they didn’t give me much time to settle in to my new job, Søren says in retrospect of the first day at work.

Before Søren started work at NOWACO he had hoped that the job would give him the possibility of planning his own working day. He soon got more than he bargained for. On the very first day he was asked to start contacting potential customers in Eastern Europe. That went quite well he thought, especially when he after just ten days had sold a container with 25 tons of chicken breasts to Croatia from Brazil and 5 days after that sold 75 tons to another new customer.

– Of course I was supervised at first, but I got a kick out of the success, and soon I was given customers of my own to deal with all by myself, Søren remembers.

When one of NOWACO’s customers was hired to be in charge of the newly established office in Macedonia, Søren was appointed the task of showing her the ropes. From then on Søren works together with Rozmari G. Klaric of Macedonia from his office in Denmark, until it is decided that it is time for Søren to learn new things. In February 2008 he moves to the department that trades with the Far East.

– This was new to me, Søren says. – I started buying pork in Spain and making offers to our offices in China, who took care of selling the goods to the Chinese market. If I found out that there was a demand for the goods elsewhere, I was free to close deals with those customers.

– The working atmosphere at the office in Aalborg is friendly, Søren continues smiling. – And I just love the dynamic and international atmosphere here at NOWACO. In the morning I am talking to buyers in China, and in the afternoon I am dealing with Spanish food suppliers. You learn new things every day and you meet people of many nationalities – especially at the international exhibitions that NOWACO attends. But you have to keep your head straight, because there are a lot of things going on at the same time.

As an apprentice I was fortunate to land here. I have learned a lot, and the apprentices at NOWACO do many things together, like going out to eat, playing football, and spending weekends together.

We make you feel goods!

The ability alone to buy and sell food and foodstuffs at the best prices doesn’t make you a winner in the area of food trading. What you really need to know is where on Earth to find the right customer for exactly the goods that you want to sell. Or maybe it is the other way around? You have the buyers but you need the goods.
