On a grand scale

The fish trading business is immense. NOWACO has been at it since the seventies and can only observe that the business is scaling up towards an unseen peak. In a world where the population of mankind is growing steadily, and where people are becoming aware of the health benefits of seafood, it is increasingly difficult to land enough fish to meet the rising demands.

Due to demands for sustainable catches so as to avoid depletion of the oceans, the amount of fish caught on sea has stabilized around 6.5 million tons a year. So the only way to get more fish on to the market is through breeding fish. At the moment, bred fish equal the amount of free fish, but no doubt this will change in the future.

Muddy the waters

The quality of fish farms differs. At NOWACO we only buy fish from environmentally healthy fish farms and from farms with facilities of a high quality, so as to avoid fish that have been bred in muddy farms and fed with dubious fodder. We also make sure that the bred fish match the species required by the customers.

In other words, NOWACO has the right set-up to navigate through the troubled waters of fish trading, and therefore we are able to ensure that our demands are met.

We are able to track the fish we buy back to its origin due to a code on every consignment, which also specifies the sort of fish we are dealing with. Moreover all our shipments from Argentina, Russia, USA, Chile, China, and Vietnam are inspected by our representative offices.

NOWACO is among the largest importers of white fish from around the world to Europe, and we also supply to the American market.

The mainstream

The main fish species we deal in are:
White fish: Cod, haddock, hake, Alaska Pollock, and Hoki. Other types are salmon and flat fish. From fish farms in China we sell tilapia, while the Pangasius come from fish farms in Vietnam.
